The Ferrari 275
Tour wound its way back to the Fiorano track on Sunday on the final leg of a
six-day adventure that took 53 cars over 1,680km of some of Italy’s finest
driving roads between Emilia Romagna and Tuscany.
Organised by Ferrari to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the launch of the
275 GTB and GTS, the event saw cars from 17 different countries take part.
Among the highlights of the event was rerunning some of the area’s most
historic hillclimbs, including the Cereglio-Vergato, the Coppa della Consuma,
the Mugello road circuit and the Balze di Volterra.
Guest of Honour was John Surtees who won the 1964 F1 World Championship at the
wheel of a Ferrari 158 F1. For the event Mr Surtees drove the Factory’s very
own 275 GTB4 which belongs to the Galleria Ferrari museum and that was
originally owned by Lorenzo Bandini, works F1 driver and John’s team-mate.
"Taking the wheel of this car again for the first time after so many years,"
commented John Surtees, "was quite a moving moment. Like a fine wine, it even
seems to have improved with age! Similarly, having spent these few days
together with a bunch of such enthusiastic owners took me back to those
marvellous times when I raced for Ferrari. I will never forget this Tour!"
The 275 Tour was thus also an occasion for an emotional meeting of many
personalities who helped write the Scuderia’s history back in the 1960s, with
the opening two days on the track witnessing the gathering of Sergio
Scaglietti, Ing. Mauro Forghieri and a group of Ferrari’s original mechanics.
