Fiat Auto report strong domestic sales

Fiat Auto’s headquarters in Turin announced positive news on Friday morning, with their domestic car sales figures for August showing a market share of 28.5 percent. This represents Fiat Auto’s best result in the past five months. Their combined brands’ volume over the past eight months has increased by 2.9 percent faced with a 1.2 percent market growth.

These latest figures from the Italian Transport Ministry confirm the success of Fiat Auto’s new models, two of which are at the top of the list of new cars sold in Italy.

Fiat

In the January- August period, the recently facelifted Fiat Punto represented Italy’s most popular car, whilst the all-new Fiat Panda came in second. The Fiat Stilo took tenth place.

In the list of most sold diesels during the eight month period, the Fiat Punto came in first, with the Fiat Stilo taking fourth place.

The new Idea compact Multi Purpose Vehicle confirmed its leadership in the LO department during August, with a market share of 28.7 percent. Meanwhile the Ulysse MPV and multi-space Doblo are at the top of their segments.

Only a few weeks after its market introduction, the Multipla MPV facelift sits at number three in its department with an 11.1 percent market share.

Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo recorded an aggressive market increase of 9.4 percent, with a market share in August of 4.3 percent.

The successful August month was partly due to the new Alfa GT sports coupe, which brought the brand’s market penetration in segment D to 19 percent.

In the January-August period, the sporty Alfa 147 1.9 JTD 16V represented Italy’s eighth most popular diesel model.

Alfa Romeo’s recently facelifted flagship 166 model increased its market share from 4 percent to 7.2 percent, a significant 3.2 percent rise.

The introduction of the new 4x4 Alfa Crosswagon Q4 estate in October is set to make a further positive impression this year.

Lancia

Luxury brand Lancia showed a market share increase of 0.9 percent.

The January-August period saw Lancia’s new Ypsilon luxury supermini becoming Italy's fifth most popular car, whilst it represented the market's ninth most popular diesel model.

The Lancia Phedra minivan joined the Fiat Ulysse MPV at the top of its market segment.

Lancia’s growth is expected to increase significantly in the last quarter with their new Musa compact MPV coming into effect after its introduction on 18 September.

These Fiat models now represent the most popular vehicles in their respective classes.

The new Alfa GT sportscar made a huge impression in the D segment, with a 19 percent share in August. The handsome new 166 has increased its market share by 3.2 percent.

The Ypsilon was Italy's fifth strongest selling car during the January-August period. The Phedra, along with its sister Fiat Ulysse, lies at the top of its market sector.
