The
Maserati Light notched a win and a second place in the seventh round
of the Csai Gran Turismo Trofeo Nazionale on Sunday at Misano
Adriatico. It was a great result but with a little bit of luck the
trip to the Adriatic could have turned into two wins.
Already winners of the morning's race, Raffaele Raimondi and Gianni
Giudici, could have won the second race easily. Only a collision with
another car early in the race took away their chance of victory.
Thus, crucial championship points were lost to their main rivals in a
Porsche 996, Giovanni Sada and Mario Sala. Damage to the radiator
forced Raffaele Raimondi, then at the wheel, to make a trip to the
pits. Bruno Corradi and Giorgio Cipolli were out on the track flying
the Maserati flag high. They started a little sluggishly but came back
to finish within two tenths of the winners. Only a bumper separated
their Light from the Sada-Sala 996 GT3 after an hour of racing.
In very difficult conditions, owing to the sweltering temperatures,
the Trident Coupe' showed how competitive it is in the Csai Trofeo
Nazionale. Continuing technical developments have contributed to
making the Light the car to beat.
The championship now has its summer break. The next race is scheduled
for 19 September, the date of the Grand Final at Vallelunga. The
Sala-Sada duo will enjoy the plaudits as they are now out of reach of
the Modena cars. |
