26.02.2004 REVOLUTIONARY FIAT RAZORBACK WILL BE LAUNCHED AT THE MELBOURNE MOTOR SHOW

The name of Fiat will return to the Melbourne Motor Show for the first time in more than a decade when the 70th edition of the Australian show opens its doors tomorrow.

The new Fiat Ducato van was voted Large Van of the Year by the leading UK commercial vehicle magazine "What Van" in 2003. The five-unit range is powered by Fiat's 2.8-litre, 94kW common rail turbo, intercooled diesel that boasts 300Nm of torque.

The Ducato range has features such as the pop-up clipboard in the centre of the dashboard, a wide range of storage spaces, dash-mounted gearshift lever to allow unobstructed floor space plus eight fresh air outlets. On the safety side there are ABS disc brakes on all four wheels, head restraints, height-adjustable seat belts and dual airbags.

The distinctive style and roominess of the Fiat Ducato has prompted three local mobile home manufacturers to use it as the base for their products.

Fiat Commercial Vehicles will also be launching the revolutionary new Fiat Razorback in Melbourne. Based on the hugely successful Fiat Ducato, which has sold more than 1.2 million models throughout the world, the Fiat Razorback is available in both Van and Utility Truck configurations.

Featuring a unique self-lowering and self-raising floor, the Fiat Razorback is designed to provide fast, safe, efficient handling across thousands of applications. The vehicle's hydraulically powered load bed is quickly raised and lowered with the touch of a button, enabling all types of bulky and heavy goods to be simply rolled on and off the vehicle.

Fiat's National Sales Manager, Adam Le Fevre, said: "We believe the Fiat Razorback will totally change the way people think about transport. The constant tightening of health and safety legislation concerning manual handling, makes the transport of goods a potential minefield for employers.

"The Fiat Razorback not only eliminates all of the concerns associated with the manual handling of goods in and out of a van or utility vehicle, it also substantially boosts productivity," said Mr Le Fevre.

Fiat has been developing and testing the Razorback for the past few years in Europe and there are now more than 400 of them in operation.

As well as the Razorback and the full range of Ducato commercial vehicles, Fiat will also be displaying the new Trakka Torino Camper.
