The Ferrari 575 M
Maranello, fitted with the GTC Handling Pack option, is present on the sportscar
marque's stand at the Paris Mondial de l'Automobile this week.
While the 'World
Premiere' of the new Ferrari F430, undoubtedly one of the French show's biggest
stars, has grabbed the attention, the 575 M Maranello, along with the 360
Spider, 612 Scaglietti and the F2004 Formula One chassis, all vie for the eye on
a stand that continues to draw massive crowds.
The red 575 M
Maranello on show is presented with the GT-racing bred, GTC Handling Pack
option, a feature that was first seen in Geneva back in March.
The kit offers carbon-ceramic brake discs, a new braking alternative already
introduced to the Enzo and the Challenge Stradale. This is however the first
time that it has become available on a front engined Ferrari.
As is clear from its name, which refers to the transfer of the handling
characteristics of the version used in the FIA-GT Championship to the road-going
model, the GTC Handling option offers an even more thrilling driving experience,
thanks to its new track-derived components.
Apart from the effectiveness of the
new brakes developed in collaboration with Brembo, this is a further development
of the Fiorano handling package (special springs and anti-roll bars, lowered
ride height, upgraded power steering), with additional advances in electronic
suspension control.
The new personalisation option also includes an exhaust system with an even
deeper, characteristic rumble, newly designed exhausts, coloured brake callipers
featuring the 'Brembo Carbon Ceramic' logo, and modular 19" wheels fitted with
special Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres (255/35 ZR19 front and 305/30 ZR 19 rear).
This kit aims to further enhance the reputation of the 575 M Maranello, a car
born two years ago out of the 550 Maranello. Inside, much of the cockpit is
trimmed in red leather, giving the car a vivid appearance.
Careful use of carbon
fibre, combines with the leather finish neatly to create a sporty feel. The
presence of this lightweight material can been seen in the the instrument panel
bezel, sections of the 'sports' steering wheel, and even extends as far as the
large, round, seat adjustment knob.
It is an exciting time for this big front engined V12 car. Last year a dedicated
racing version, the 575 GTC was born, which went on to win on its FIA GT
Championship debut at Estoril, while this year, it raced to victory at the
Donington Park round, a nail-biting win that was only decided on the penultimate
bend.
Next year two
further road versions of the 575 M Maranello will arrive. A stripped-out,
lightweight 'Challenge Stradale' model is expected to offer both blistering pace
and handling, while a 'Spider', will use the innovative glass folding roof
system designed by Fioravanti.
