01.05.2004 Ferrari have completed a week of testing at Mugello AND Monza, involving all four of the team's drivers, Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa AND Luca Badoer

FerrariFerrari have completed a busy week of testing with separate programs being undertaken at two different track, Mugello and Monza and involving all four of the team's drivers, Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello, Felipe Massa and Luca Badoer.

Sauber F1 driver and part-time Ferrari tester, Felipe Massa, kicked the week off on Tuesday in dry and sunny conditions when he took to the track at Mugello to begin a tyre testing program aimed at developing suitable compounds for the next few races, including the forthcoming Spanish Grand Prix at Barcelona.

The Brazilian driver, at the wheel of an F2004 worked through the tyre test program, completing a total of 72 laps, 16 of them on the short version of the track, with a best time on the day of 1.19.529.

Wednesday saw Michael Schumacher take over testing duties at Mugello, the German driver, in favourable conditions, continuing with the Bridgestone tyre test program and completing 63 laps, 10 of them on the short version of the track, his fastest lap a 1.19.562.

Rubens Barrichello became the third of the teams' drivers to become involved in the Mugello tyre test when he replaced Schumacher on Thursday. The Brazilian ran 48 laps, seven of them on the short version of the track, his quickest a 1:20.896. However, the ideal conditions deteriorated during the course of the day, with intermittent rain appearing in the afternoon.

Yesterday was the fourth and final day of the Bridgestone program. Once again, Barrichello took to an initially rain-hit track the track at the wheel of an F2004. He turned in a total of 73 laps, 17 of them on the short version of the track as he wrapped up the four day test. His best lap, posted during the afternoon, as conditions improved, was a 1:20.302.

Meanwhile Tuesday also saw the first day of testing this year for Ferrari at Monza, the home of the Italian Grand Prix. Luca Badoer kicked the action off, with an F2004 at his disposal.

The technical programme for the session centred on Bridgestone tyre development and engine testing. At the request of the Scuderia, the track was modified with the addition of two chicanes. A total of 490 kilometres was completed.

Wednesday again saw Badoer continue the tyre and engine program, the team's official test driver running for almost the entire day on a track again modified with the addition of two chicanes. A total of 521 kilometres was completed.

Testing ended ahead of schedule on Thursday when Badoer went off the track early on at the Curva Grande, a incident put down to the fact the track was slippery after a light shower. The Italian was uninjured, but the car was damaged and had to be taken back to Maranello so it could be repaired. Up to that moment, Badoer had completed 26 laps, with a best time of 1:21.626.
