12.07.2004 In a unique AND warm gesture, Minardi ran in yesterday's British GP with no commercial identification AND in their place a simple tribute to John Walton, their Sporting Director who died on Friday

In memory of their popular Sporting Director, John Walton, who had died late on Friday night following a major heart attack days earlier, the Minardi F1 team ran their cars during yesterday's British Grand Prix at Silverstone, with all commercial identification removed, and in their place a simple tribute.

The team's Italian driver Gianmaria Bruni commented after the race, 的t was a difficult race today with a number of problems, but I知 pleased that I was able to take the flag as a tribute to John".

Meanwhile their other pilot, Hungarian Zolt Baumgartner said, 的知 upset that I wasn稚 able to finish the race and take the chequered flag today. I had promised myself that I would do it, both for John and for me".

Minardi owner Paul Stoddart summed up the team's feelings, 的知 deeply touched by the level of support Minardi has received this weekend.

'It really does show that Formula One is far more of a family than people realise, but most importantly, it shows just how popular a figure John Walton was in the F1 community.

In the hard nosed world of Formula One it was a unique and heartfelt gesture from the Minardi team.
