Lamborghini issued the following statement in response the the announcement from Krohn-Barbour Racing that they would be ditching their two car ALMS Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT programme:

Automobili Lamborghini has expressed its disappointment at the withdrawal of Krohn-Barbour Racing from the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) following the announcement by the team that it will not attend the final 2004 round at Laguna Seca and does not have plans to contend the 2005 championship with its two Lamborghini Murcielago R-GTs.

Krohn-Barbour confirmed its departure following this weekend's Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta, Georgia, after a strong finish by the number six car piloted by Krohn/Maxwell/Fox in the 1000 mile, ten-hour endurance race, and a third place position for the number five car until an oil spill five hours into the race caused the Brabham/Kox/Jonsson R-GT to come off and subsequently retire.

"We're sorry that Krohn-Barbour Racing has decided to discontinue racing in the ALMS," commented Lamborghini's marketing manager Manfred Fitzgerald.

"The team is at the point where it has gained ground since starting its five-race ALMS campaign, when the cars came 'out of the box' to race for the first time at Mid-Ohio earlier this year.

"The modifications that Lamborghini and Reiter Engineering recommended to the team as part of our considerable input into the programme have now been implemented and the results of this were seen in recent tests and at Petit Le Mans."
