Adam Wilcox is the new 2004 British GT Cup-class Champion after a successful outing at Brands Hatch last weekend in his DRM Racing Ferrari 360 Challenge.

Wilcox, and his Portugeese co-driver Ni Amorim, needed to score a fifth place in either of the two races to secure the title if their main rivals, Tech9, won both races.

For the first race Wilcox qualified the car third in the Cup class, and started the hour long race. After thirty minutes he had worked his way into second place in class and the only other drivers capable of stopping him taking the title were way down the order in ninth and very unlikey to win the race.

After thirty four minutes he pitted and handed the car over to Ni Amorin to complete the remainder of the race. He finally came home in 4th place, securing the 2004 British GT Championship Cup-class title for the DRM team.

Amorim started the rain affected second race after having earlier qualified in sixth place, with now ex-title rivals, the Tech9 team, placing their Porsche GT3 on pole position.

The Portugeese driver drove for a little over twenty three minutes before coming into the pits to change over to Wilcox, the team taking advantage of a safety car period.

Adam rejoined in fourth place, and quickly set about catching and passing the cars ahead. He was into second place when another accident, on the what was now a very wet and dangerous circuit, saw the safety car deployed again.

The class-leading Tech9 Porsche, that was at this point now only seconds ahead, gained a lap's advantage, and once the safety car had been called in, Adam could do no more than hold onto second place.

"Awesome! We have won the Championship by a huge margin, after falling behind into second place during the season we came right back and took the title in the final three races, we are all delighted with our achievement," commented Adam afterwards.
