18.09.2004 "We would like to celebrate Maserati’s 90th anniversary tomorrow in the best of ways" AF Corse Maserati FIA GT qualifying report from Oschersleben

Claudio Berro: “We knew that it would be hotter in the afternoon, making it difficult to improve on the morning’s times. However, the gap between the first seven cars is very small and so it is very important to start with a perfect race set up.

"In the second session we obtained the first and second partial places by improving the set up and finding the right balance. The Pirelli tyres also performed very well. We would like to celebrate Maserati’s 90th anniversary tomorrow in the best of ways”.

Andrea Bertolini: “We set a great time this morning. Mika tried out a different set up in the afternoon and found it a good one on the track. Owing to the high temperatures and the dirty track, it was not possible to do any better.

"I am hopeful for tomorrow’s race. In fact, we are all grouped within a few tenths of each other and we can challenge for the win”.

Mika Salo: “I concentrated on the race set up and, with Andrea, think I have chosen a good configuration. I am very pleased because the car has improved compared to Imola.

"We are consistent and will give our rivals a hard time. The gap between us and them is only a few tenths”.

Johnny Herbert: “This morning we worked well, even though I was bumped by another driver after I had let him past. In the contact – an altogether unnecessary one – I damaged the right mudguard.

"In the afternoon we made some modifications to the car in order to perfect the balance but the track was too dirty after one of the other drivers went off. There was also a lot of traffic out there. Overall, I think I have a good car for the race”.

Fabrizio De Simone:
“We are satisfied because we completed the planned programme of work ahead of the race and found a perfect race set up. In the afternoon session we changed things slightly and were very consistent”.
