The sixth and
final round of the Spanish Gran Turismo championship took
place at Barcelona this weekend. The event saw the Maserati
Light fielded by Team Giudici take part for the second time,
after the Jerez debut at the beginning of October.
The race ended bitterly for Nicola Larini and Alessandro
Nannini after their Trident car suffered from a problem with
the bonnet.
Nannini, was making his return to competition after a long
period of inactivity, but had to be content with thirtieth
spot at the chequered flag as the duo lost a lot of time in
the pits trying to put the problem right.
Nicola Larini got off to a good start and in just a few laps
had moved up to eleventh place. In the early stages of the
race the Tuscan driver was making a sterling comeback: “I
was fighting it out with three or four other drivers and I
was enjoying it”, commented Larini.
“I managed to keep up with more powerful cars and, taking
advantage of my rivals’ mistakes, I was able to overtake one
driver after another.

After a long period of inactivity,
Sandro Nannini joined fellow Italian racing driver Nicola
Larini at the wheel of a Maserati Light GT in Barcelona |

"Things were going well but then, unfortunately, one of the
bonnet clips became unhooked”. This problem forced Larini to
slow right down and pull into the pits as his visibility was
severely hindered.
The repairs complete, the car had to wait in the pit lane
for more than a minute. It was the turn of Alessandro
Nannini to get behind the wheel but although a top placing
was out of reach, both he and Larini focused on finishing
the race.
The best lap time of 1:51.942 still stood out as it was on a
par with the fifth best time in the GTS class vehicles and
ninth best overall.
The race was won by the Marcos LM600 in Miguel Angel De
Castro and Angel Burgueno with the championship title going
to Shaun Balfe and Nigel Taylor, who finished second.
