The Maserati Light scored another double win in the final round of the Italian Gran Turismo championship at Vallelunga yesterday.

The white Trident GT cars driven by the Giudici-Raimondi and Cipolli-Corradi crews took a win each in the Trofeo Nazionale class being run at the Lazio circuit.

Thanks to these wins, which makes it nine out of sixteen, Giorgio Cipolli and Bruno Corradi are runners-up in the Csai Trofeo with 202 points, just two up on Gianni Giudici and Raffaele Raimondi.

So the Maserati Light’s ends its debut year in Italy successfully, and attention will now turn to improving the car in time for the 2005 season.

Race 1

On pole in the Csai Trofeo Nazionale class was Bruno Corradi’s Maserati Light. The Bressano driver managed to hold onto the lead from the other Light, with Raffaele Raimondi at the wheel.

The two Trident Coupé enthralled the crowds in heading the race until the halfway point while Mario Sala’s Porsche 996 GT3 was further back. As it was about to pit and make the driver change, the number 205 Maserati suffered an electrical fault and Corradi was forced to retire.

The leadership was taken up by Gianni Giudici, who had swapped places with Raffaele Raimondi. Giudici saw out the rest of the race to win comfortably from Giovanni Sala in the Porsche.

Race 2

The Maserati Light also enlivened the second Csai GT Trofeo Nazionale event with some exciting racing and a great comeback. In the early phases the Lights lost ground to the Sada’s Porsche. Giorgio Cipolli and Gianni Giudici, in that order, had to chase and up the rhythm.

After ten minutes of racing, Giudici was getting quicker and he overtook Cipolli, stepped on the pedal and set off after Sada. After twenty-five minutes it was time for the driver changes with Corradi taking the place of Cipolli, and Giudici being substituted by Raimondi.

Raimondi, however, could not restart because of a problem with a brake pad on a rear wheel. The task of clawing back the Porsche lead of Mario Sala now rested with Bruno Corradi.

He started to set some consistently fast lap times and swept past the Porsche after forty minutes.
