After having completed a series of tests over the past few days, the new Maserati Trofeo GranSport was unveiled at Imola yesterday.

The new car will be fielded during the 2005 running of the Trofeo Vodafone Maserati Europa, as the popular series goes into its third year.

The Trofeo, which has also supported two Grands Prix this year, is running at Imola this weekend, giving the current crop of competitors an ideal chance to examine the new car close-up.

The car now features a new dark blue colour scheme, reflecting the colour of the MC12 that will compete in the FIA GT championship.

The Trofeo GranSport is clearly visually inspired by the standard GranSport model presented at the last Geneva Motorshow.

The main modifications to the car are:

  • GranSport kit

  • Reduced weight

  • Ignition setup optimised for racing

  • Improved braking unit

  • New aerodynamic configuration. In detail: front splitter with diffusers, new design for the rear wing.
