Autodelta Squadra Corse will race a fourth works Alfa Romeo 156 car for James Thompson at Donington Park next weekend.

The Englishman’s
most recent appearance in the FIA ETCC dates back to the final event of last year, at Monza. It was a very strong weekend for him, and as well as helping Gabriele Tarquini clinch the Drivers’ title for Alfa Romeo, he was also able to claim his maiden European victory.

Now ‘Thommo’, a favourite of the British fans who is currently chasing his Vauxhall team-mate Yvan Muller in the BTCC classification, joins the Auto
delta team again, alongside Tarquini, Fabrizio Giovanardi and Augusto Farfus.

Born in York on April 24, 1974, Thompson won the British BTCC in 2002 and was placed second last year.

“I’m very excited. And I think we can expect some good results. This time it’s easier for me than it was last year. I had never been to Monza before, while obviously I know Donington very well. An also I don’t have to carry the 40 kg ballast, that makes a big difference. I’m very looking forward to it,” Thompson stated.

However, in the latest rounds the Alfa Romeo cars suffered a bit from not being on the winning pace. Are you worried for this? “Not really. I will do the best I possibly could. I’m not totally familiar with the problems they’ve been having, but from my knowledge from last year I know that the car should be very good in Donington. Quick and competitive. Therefore, I think that there is a good chance we will feature very strong.”

James Thompson was drafted into the Autodelta squad for the final European Touring Car Championship races last year to help Gabriele Tarquini's title quest
