After his dominant win in the first
race at Donington Park last month, James Thompson will return to the FIA
European Touring Car Championship at Spa next weekend, once again to reinforce
the AutoDelta team. This will mean that there will be four factory-entered Alfa Romeo 156 Super 2000 cars to face the massed ranks of BMW, in a further attempt to remedy a situation which at present sees the red cars’ drivers trailing their German-entered rivals. Thompson’s addition will
hopefully prove to be a crucial for boost to Gabriele Tarquini and Fabrizio
Giovanardi in their fight for the title, as the Briton will work, together with
young Brazilian Augusto Farfus, to support the pair, who are currently fourth
and fifth in the Drivers’ Championship. However
he most probably miss the next meeting of the ETCC at Imola on 5 September, as
it will clash with his British Touring Car Championship commitments at
Snetterton the same weekend. The Belgian weekend foreshadows as a busy
one for Thompson, who will fly back to England on Saturday after the races to
marry his long-time girl friend Vicki. |
