Alfa Romeo Squadra Corse will line up on the grid for round 4 of the SA
Production Car Championship at the Port Elizabeth Aldo Scribante circuit next
weekend with three Alfa Romeo 147GTAs.
The third 147 GTA has just arrived
from Italy and will be prepared for Marco da Cunha, replacing the Alfa 156 GTA
he has been piloting.
The excellent handling and power of the 147 GTA's was shown two weeks ago at
Kyalami when, on its South African debut, Martin Steyn won both Vodacom Power
Tour Production Car Championship rounds.
Morne Jurgens in a second Alfa Romeo 147 GTA backed up the victories by taking a
strong third place in the second race of the day.
While the Alfa Romeo 156GTA driven by Martin Steyn
last year took victory early in the season in the wet at Killarney, the Kyalami
win was the first
official Alfa Romeo victory since the late Nico Bianco won ahead of the BMWs in
a GTV6 3.0 in 1984 on the old Kyalami.
The decision to add a third Alfa 147 GTA was motivated with the wish to bring
even more excitement to the Vodacom Power Tour with three young drivers, Martin
Steyn,
Morne Jurgens and
now Marco da Cunhall, all in
contention to drive for the podium.
Following the success of the GTA in racing, Alfa Romeo South Africa has decided
to launch the Alfa 147 GTA in the 4th quarter of this year.
