Fiat Chairman
Luca di Montezemolo and CEO Sergio Marchionne have both been
talking up Fiat's financial position ahead of the impending
announcement of the carmaker's latest quarterly results.
The two men, who are the key figures in the Italian firm's
on-going revival strategy, have been in upbeat mood as they
stated last week that Fiat's well laid out targeted aims are
being satisfactorily achieved.
LUCA DI MONTEMOLO: "it's necessary to say
certain things"
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting to
discuss the economic prospects of Southern Italy, Luca di
Montezemolo confirmed that Fiat's financial aims for the
year have been achieved.
"Once and for
all it's necessary to say certain things and I believe that
there is just too much talk of financial problems, banks,
and stock market shares," commented di Montezemolo. "Fiat is
a very large industrial group of which cars represent forty
percent of this company, and this sector is being strongly
restructured at the moment. The management are working very
hard and the workers also are very committed. I hope that
the market conditions will allow satisfaction for all those
who are working so hard and deserve it.

strong determination, and importantly we are in line with
the aims set at the beginning of the year," Montezemolo
concluded.
SERGIO MARCHIONNE:
"we are in line with what we have always said"
Last week in Turin Fiat Group and Auto Division CEO Sergio
Marchionne commented to the media, in reference to the
impending quarterly report, that "there will be no negative
surprises, we are in line with what we have always said."
Asked about the much-discussed proposed new industrial
alliances he replied, "I'm absolutely convinced that the
future of the car division will be resolved with new
targeted alliances. That means a lot of targeted work, and
we will need a long time to establish contacts, and to share
specific and industrial objectives. It is a job," Marchionne
concluded, "we have started, which has already obtained
results with Peugeot, and there will be more opportunities
now in Turkey, and to do this we will also involve the
Italian plants."
