The 2005 edition
of the
Liège-Rome-Liège rally of vintage cars will be an occasion
to celebrate 40 years of the Lamborghini Miura.
For the 75th anniversary of the
event, the organizers decided to introduce a "Lamborghini
Challenge" reserved for classic Lamborghinis.
One of these
cars - a Lamborghini Miura SV from 1972 owned by Automobili
Lamborghini and assigned race number 90 - will be driven by
the Head of the Lamborghini Centro Stile, Luc Donckerwolke.
The designer, a classic car enthusiast, uses rally events as
an inspiration and motivation for his work.
This year the
Liège-Rome-Liège rally will start in Bormio, Italy, on the
evening of June 20th. The first stage will start and
finish on Passo dello Stelvio, 2758 metres
above sea level. The competitors will have to keep average
speeds of 45 to 50 kilometers per hour on mountain roads
through
the eastern Alps, Julian Alps and Dolomites, ascending and
descending famous passes at
1,896 m, 1,943 m, 2,042 m and
1,970 m. Success demands
patience, concentration, skill, trust in the car and
harmonious teamwork.
The other
scheduled stages on the rally are: Bormio to San Martino di Castrozza on
June 21st, San Martino di Castrozza to Kranjska Gora
(Slovenia) on June 22nd, with the final stage being the
arrival in Portorose (Slovenia) on June 23rd. After 1250 km of fantastic
roads, the teams will be rewarded with a
final
Prizegiving Gala, on a private beach, by the light of a
fireworks display arranged in honour of the Rally’s Jubilee
and its competitors.
