Iveco has been accepted into the Torino 2006 Sponsors and Sustainability programme, which is designed to highlight the efforts made by TOROC and its partners in favour of the environment, by exploiting their common characteristics and strengths in the context of the 2006 Olympic Winter Games.
Iveco’s activities in this field have been assessed by expert international auditors, who have expressed the opinion that “attention to the environment is a key value for Iveco”.

This assessment confirms that Iveco is seriously committed to pursuing constant improvement in the environmental field, where both its products and its manufacturing sites are concerned. Iveco also sustains the economic and social development of the communities in which it operates, paying particular attention to the minorities and the weaker, excluded members of society; for example, the training programme organised with the Don Bosco Salesian Institute for young people in Cairo, where the company has an important commercial operation, or the funds raised to help the populations of Southeast Asia affected by the tsunami on December 26, 2004 (on that occasion Iveco donated one and a half million Euros, including financial support, equipment and technical assistance). Where the product is concerned, great progress has been made in the development of eco-compatible engines and vehicles, focusing attention on fuel consumption, greenhouse gases, emissions, noise levels, durability and reliability, recycling and the saving of materials and energy resources. Most of its plants have achieved ISO 14001 certification (the three plants in Turin, Valle Ufita, Piacenza, Ulm and Barcelona,) and others in Europe will soon follow.
 

Iveco has developed Diesel engines that are among the best in their category, and has conceived innovative propulsion units that run on alternative fuels, including Compressed Natural Gas – an area in which Iveco is a market leader – for both the urban goods delivery sector and for passenger buses. Iveco is intensely involved in the development of hybrid vehicles, as well as of buses running on hydrogen-fuelled batteries.

Iveco’s commitment to the protection of the environment is borne out by the activities organised within the company, to inform the dealer network (and therefore the customer) and employees of the innovative environmental solutions developed to improve the environmental impact of its vehicles, their safety and productivity on the road, and to optimise costs during their life cycle.

The Olympic Winter Games are an expression of the importance of respect for mankind and for the environment, and an opportunity to underline these values, which Iveco believes in. Being accepted into the Sponsors and Sustainability Programme is recognition of the company’s efforts so far, as well as a stimulus to continue in this direction.
