During a ceremony held yesterday at the Quirinale Palace, the President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi conferred on Andrea Pininfarina, CEO of the Pininfarina Group, the insignia of “Cavaliere al Merito del Lavoro” (Knight of Labour). Life Senator Sergio Pininfarina was present. The nomination was communicated last June 2nd on the occasion of the Republic Day celebration.

The “Cavaliere del Lavoro” is the maximum recognition assigned to entrepreneurs who distinguished themselves in the economic world. The golden cross painted in green with the Republic emblem is shared by three generations of the Pininfarina family, as it happened in the case of the insignia of “Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur”: in fact, before Andrea Pininfarina, both honours have been awarded to his grandfather, the company's founder Battista “Pinin” Farina, and his father, current Chairman Sergio Pininfarina.

Andrea Pininfarina was born in Turin in 1957, is married and has three children. Graduated in Mechanical Engineering in 1981 at the Polytechnic of Turin, in 1982 he began his career in the United States.
