The 1938 Lancia Aprilia Sport Aerodynamica was so-called due
to its long, streamlined shape. Thanks to the car’s
lightweight body, the long, low tail and clean aerodynamics
that extended all the way backwards through the faired-in
rear wheel spats, performance was improved over the previous
Aprilia versions.
The car’s inverted wing shape was yet another example of the
aeronautical approach from its creator, the legendary Ugo Zagato. Like
so many cars with bodies created by Zagato, the shape was designed to
make the car competitive and agile on the racetrack, without
any compromise or overstatement.
