The warm weather heralds the renewal of the duel between Maserati drivers and their eternal rivals from Ferrari. This is the ninth year of the Shell Ferrari-Maserati Historic Challenge.

The opening race of this year's historic racing programme kicks off today (14 May) at the famous Pau Trans-Alpine circuit.

The choice of this city circuit for the season’s first race is a good one. Situated in the western Pyrenees, this French city has been the setting for some of the most famous chapters in the history of international motor racing.

It was here in 1948 that the first ever Formula 1 Grand Prix was run. In 1949, Juan Manuel Fangio scored his first victory on European soil. It was on this track that legends like Ascari, Clark, Phil Hill, Rindt and Stewart took each other on, all the while generating an exciting spectacle for the watching supporters.

The Shell Ferrari-Maserati Historic Challenge races will be held during the fifth Grand Prix de Pau Historique. Every year this event draws ever larger crowds and for the drivers involved in our Historic Challenge it will be a chance to come into contact with and measure themselves against fans of other marques. Thus, the weekend will have a different feel from a normal race meet, one more in touch with the great battles from the past.

As per tradition, Maserati will be out in force. On the track will be some of the most stunning models produced by the Modena house: the 6CM, A6GCM and 250F single-seaters.

Also lining up will be the A6GCS, 150S, 200S, 300S and Bora Gr.4 sport category vehicles. Judging from years gone by, the Maserati drivers are sure to put up a sterling performance. The Trident flag will be flying high.
