Alfa Romeo has
finally confirmed all its four drivers for the 2005 FIA
World Touring Car Championship.
AutoDelta Squadra Corse will run the N-Technolgy built Alfa
Romeo 156 cars in the same formation as in the second part
of the 2004 FIA European Touring Car Championship: Augusto
Farfus, Fabrizio Giovanardi, Gabriele Tarquini and James
Thompson. A quartet that managed to claim eight race wins
and five pole position throughout last season.
A few days after the official announcement was released, the
four Alfa men flew to Jerez de la Frontera for their first
testing session of the year.
During the three days of the test, from Tuesday 18th to
Thursday 20th January, Farfus, Giovanardi, Tarquini and
Thompson took stints at the wheel of two cars. Both were
2004-specificaton models with a few technical innovations,
including one which was fitted with the bigger brakes now
allowed by the new FIA WTCC regulations.

"The weather was excellent, sunny and warm,"
sporting director Tiziana Borghi reported. "Meaning that
we were able to make a good job and complete a great number
of laps without significant problems. Each driver completed
more than a hundred laps."
AutoDelta Squadra Corse will test again in three weeks, at
an as yet undecided location, either in Monza or
back in Jerez, depending on the weather conditions.
