The Australian and New Zealand Alfa Romeo importer, Ateco Automotive (who also handle Fiat, Fiat Light Commercial Vehicle, Ferrari and Maserati brands) has drawn up ambitious new plans to grow the sporty Milanese brand's exciting new range of models on both markets. Ateco Automotive is run by Neville Crichton who most famously skippers the stunning - and successful - Alfa Romeo Maxi racing yacht.

This year Ateco Automotive is targeting selling around 400 of the new Giorgetto Giugiaro-styled Alfa 159 sedans - the first of the four 'new breed' of Alfa Romeo models to arrive on the market - in Australia, split between the 2.2 JTS (60 percent of sales) and 2.4 JTDM (30 pct) which go on sale on Thursday (1st June) and the powerful 3.2 V6 (10 pct) which arrives a month later.

As well as the Alfa 159 sedan, Ateco Automotive expects to shift around 25 units of the new Brera sportscar (the 2.2 JTS version goes on sale in Australia on 16th June, while the 3.2 V6 Q4 arrives a month later) and the Spider (on sale in December) as well as 50 units of the Alfa 159 Sportwagon (due to go on sale in August.) The four new models as they progressively arrive on the market will contribute to Ateco Automotive's target of 1,475 combined Alfa Romeo sales this year.

This year Ateco Automotive is targeting selling around 400 Alfa 159 sedans - the first of the four 'new breed' Alfa Romeo models to hit the market - in Australia, split between the 2.2 JTS (60 percent) and 2.4 JTDM (30 pct) which go on sale on Thursday and the powerful 3.2 V6 (10 pct) which arrives a month later.

ALFA ROMEO 2.2 JTS

The Australian and New Zealand Alfa Romeo importer, Ateco Automotive, has drawn up ambitious plans which will see the sporty Milanese brand's exciting new range of models rapidly penetrating both markets.

New Zealand meanwhile is expected to see around 140 Alfa 159 sedans sold this year, split between the 1.9 JTDM (20 pct,) 2.2 JTS (50 pct,) 2.4 JTDM (20 pct) and 3.2 V6 (10 pct.) The 1.9 JTDM version will be available in New Zealand whereas this 'entry level' turbodiesel isn't to be sold in Australia, meaning that New Zealand will see around 50 pct of Alfa 159 sales being turbodiesels, as opposed to the Australian market which has been set a lower target of 30 pct.

In 2007, when the new raft of Alfa Romeo models will all be on sale over a full year, Australia has a target of 1,500 units for the Alfa 159 sedan, 150 of the Alfa 159 Sportwagon and 400 Brera/Spider (Overall total, including other models: 2,775 units.) The diesel percentage of sales will climb to 40 pct while the Selespeed and new automatic transmissions (the latter to be introduced in Europe this autumn) will account for a significant 75 pct of sales. Meanwhile, New Zealand will see new Alfa Romeo model sales double to 300 of the Alfa 159 sedan, 30 of the 159 Sportwagon, and 60 Brera/Spider. Total sales are targeted to climb from 295 in 2006 to around 500 in 2007.
