Italian
newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore reports today that the new
Ferrari 575 M Maranello replacement will be dubbed the 599 GTB when
the covers are pulled off in the new sportscar in Detroit tomorrow. Much mystery
has surrounded the both the proposed debut of Ferrari's latest
V12-engined 'Gran Tourer' and its potential name, with 'F600 Imola' or another revival of the famous 'Testarossa' badge being
mooted in the media.
However Il Sole 24 Ore today appears to put the
mysteries to bed, the Italian newspaper often having an inside line
on what is afoot at within the Fiat Group. They believe that
the new car, codenamed F139, will be called the 599 GTB (Gran
Tourer Berlinetta) and a revealing at the North American
International Auto Show in Detroit tomorrow morning is
planned. This would follow in a recent tradition that saw
the Superamerica unveiled at last January's show, and the 612
Scaglietti during the 2004 edition.

The new Ferrari 599 GTB will continue a recent lineage of
front engined 2+2 seating 'Gran Tourer' models which hark
back to famous Prancing Horse traditions. This new model
will now replace the outgoing 575 M Maranello, which itself
was an improved version of the previous 550 Maranello,
with a larger capacity V12 engine. Styled by Pininfarina,
the 599 GTB follows the design layout of their recent 612
Scaglietti as well as heavily borrowing cues from their
acclaimed Ferrari Rossa concept car.
