The last
addition to the Fiat Panda range before it receives its
facelift in 2007, is the Panda Sport which will be available
on the market from September.
To be produced at the Tychy
factory in Poland, the Panda Sport uses the 1,368cc petrol
1.4 16V engine mated to a six-speed gearbox and will produce
a maximum power output of 100bhp (73.5 kW) at 6000rpm.
Maximum torque is 128Nm (13kgm) at 4500rpm. Top speed for
the new sporty Panda is an excellent 185km/h, with a nippy
acceleration time of 9.6 seconds from 0-100km/h. The Panda
Sport has a fuel consumption of 6.5l/100km.
Under the skin of the new Panda Sport the suspension has
been reworked to adapt the car to the characteristics
required by its more powerful engine and transmission, and
new sporty pretensions. Stylistically the car is sportier
than the base model Panda, with meatier 7-branch 15 inch
alloy wheels (shod with 195/45 R15 Goodyear tyres), colour
coded bumpers with mist lights and a new cheeky grille,
similar to that of the recent Sedici and the last edition of
the Barchetta.

The rear end introduces a stylish roof spoiler, and a
diffuser-style rear bumper with a chrome-tipped exhaust
tailpipe. The wheel arches are capped off with functional
black plastic trim which also continues through the under
section of the front and rear bumpers. Through applying more
horizontal emphasis on the front and rear styling, the Panda
Sport appears wider and lower than the standard Panda
hatchback.
The Panda Sport was recently unveiled publicly at an
employee day event
at the Tychy factory alongside the other models in the
burgeoning range and the gorgeous Trepiłno concept car,
which will also be produced at the plant alongside the Ford
Ka equivalent next year. Production of the Panda Sport has
already commenced ahead of its arrival on the European
markets in September.
