The popular-selling Brazilian
market "Adventure" branded model range comprising of
cost-effective off-road vehicles are set to arrive
in Europe next year in the form of the Fiat Strada
Adventure.
The Strada is one of four members of the Adventure
family of vehicles. The pick-up joins the Doblò,
Palio Weekend and the newest member of the range,
the Idea, in receiving the styling treatment that
seeks to imbue these models with an off-road
appearance as well as a practical application. This
includes deeper, chunkier front and rear bumpers,
wheel arch and sill moulding plastic covers,
aluminium protection plates, a raised ride height
and bigger, rugged alloy wheels. Other identifying
features include quad mist lights in the front
bumper and a compass on the dashboard. In the case
of the Strada Adventure it includes roof bars, a
roof-mounted spare wheel, full-length sill step and
aluminium step plates on the sill and the rear
bumper.
The Strada, which is built at the huge Betim plant
at Minas Gerais in Brazil, underwent a facelift in
June and this new version is set to form the basis
of the Adventure version which will be imported to
Europe. Visually the new Strada is
identifiable immediately by its new sturdier, ribbed
bumpers which draw their chunky moulded cues from
the bumpers used on the new Palio Weekend and
Adventures models. At the rear the hinged tailboard
is activated via a handle incorporated into the Fiat
badge while aluminium tread plates are mounted on
the chassis. The New Strada has new exterior door
handles and a new frame, featuring four longitudinal
bars which arching up onto the roof panel,
protecting the rear window which has an integrated
high-level brake light. The New Strada sits on 14
inch wheels shod with 175/70R tyres (the Adventure
has 180/70R tyres).

Inside, close attention has been paid to both the ergonomics
and the comfort. New materials are used for the seat
covering and door panels with overall soundproofing
improved. The seats are now vertically (as well as
horizontally) adjustable. The instruments in front of the
driver have been made visually clearer, while an extra 30 mm
space located behind the seats on the long cab version
allows for the storage of smaller items.
The versatile Fiat Strada is the highly popular,
market leading pick-up in South America with achieving sales
of 45,000 units in 2005. It is already sold across the world
as well as a number of selected European markets, including
Italy and Germany. In the former it racked up 3,000 sales
last year.
Now the Adventure version will go on sale next year, based
on the new version. However, unlike the models which are
built for the Brazilian market, it will be fitted with
Fiat's 1.3 Multijet 16v with 75 bhp which will power the
pick-up to a top speed of 150 km/h. The Strada Adventure's
wide range of practical options will also be available,
these including powerful roof-mounted spotlights and an
engine breathing 'snorkel'.
