10.11.2006 FIAT OUTLINE EXCITING PLANS FOR A SWAGE OF NEW MODELS IN THE NEXT FOUR YEARS

During the Fiat Group Investor Presentation held at Lingotto yesterday, Fiat CEO Luca De Meo promised a very bright future for the brand and outlined a swage of exciting new models which are due to hit the roads during the next four years.

Already well trailed, next year Fiat will introduce three significant and strategic new models: the 500, Linea and Bravo. The first to arrive on the market will be the Bravo which is set to be presented to the press in Rome on 29th January just weeks before going on sale. With significant sales targets Fiat are confident that this car can make an impact in the C-segment and replicate the runaway success that the Grande Punto has already achieved in its first year on sale. With its svelte lines and practical 5-door architecture, the new Bravo will replace the Stilo and will also aim for a higher profit per unit than its predecessor managed.

Likewise the new 500 is destined to be a hit, and Fiat hope it can emulate the results BMW achieved when they re-launched the Mini. The 500 will also offer strong margins. Interest for this future model for the under 30 aged group has been staggering, and the dedicated Fiat 500 website has received a record amount of visitors. As De Meo enthusiastically pointed out, it is more visited than the new Nike football website. An international design competition to design lifestyle articles around the Fiat 500 has also been a major hit, with over 1,500 entries from designers around the world including America and Japan.

The third all-new model in 2007 will be the C-segment Linea saloon. Destined to be built in Turkey, Brazil, Russia, India and China it will also be sold on Western European markets. The Linea was introduced recently at the Istanbul Motor Show to a positive audience; the car building on the styling formula introduced by the Grande Punto.

Next year will also see a "Model Year" Grande Punto launched as Fiat strive with plans to refresh all their models regularly and reduce product lifecycles. The Grande Punto was launched last autumn. The Grande Punto MY is currently being shown to dealers in Turin and includes revisions to the interior and exterior trims. Alongside this model will come a Grande Punto Abarth as Fiat re-launches the famous tuning brand, promising to build high-performance models that will effectively recreate the Abarth philosophy. Two Abarth versions are set to arrive next year, both using turbocharged engines. The most potent of these, currently dubbed the Brutale, will be a limited production all-wheel-drive road and rally machine, comparable to the legendary Lancia Delta Integrale of old. Finally in 2007 the Croma will recieve a facelift that will seek to give the Giorgetto Giugiaro-styled 'station wagon' a more distinctive appearance.

In 2008 Fiat will launch one all-new model and six facelifts or Model Year cars. The new model in question will be the Minicargo Panorama, a passenger-carrying version of the new LCV "Minicargo" currently being developed by Tofas in Turkey.

FIAT MILLE

The Fiat Uno is still a hugely popular entry-level model in South America. In Brazil last month, where it is built at Fiat's Betim plant, it was the fourth best seller in its segment, behind the Fiat Palio, VW Gol and Chevrolet Celta, all of which are important market models.

FIAT GRANDE PUNTO DYNAMIC

Next year will see a new "Model Year" Grande Punto launched as Fiat strive to refresh all their models regularly and reduce product lifecycles. The Grande Punto will receive a full facelift in 2008.

FIAT LINEA

Destined to be built in Turkey, Brazil, Russia, India and China the Fiat Linea will also be sold on Western European markets from 2007. Above: the Linea during its public debut at this month's Istanbul Auto Show. Photo: Photo: Serdar Aytamaner.

FIAT 500

The new Fiat 500 is destined to be a hit, and Fiat hope it can emulate the results BMW achieved when they recently re-launched the Mini. Within the four-year timescale of the presentation the 500 will be joined by performance (Abarth) and convertible versions.

PSA are a partner in the project, so Minicargo - which will be built at Bursa - is set to also be restyled and badged as a Peugeot and Citroën. The Grande Punto will receive a full facelift in 2008 as will the previous Punto model. Still selling well the Punto is an effective B-segment "entry level" model and Fiat want to remain a player in this sector. The Punto is built under licence in Serbia by Zastava who have been struggling to cope with demand and the refreshed Punto is expected to be built in further countries eventually. Model Year versions of the Panda, Multipla and Idea are all set to be launched, while the Abarth "family" will double with the arrival of a hot 500 model.

The penultimate year of the four-year outline (2009) will see three important new Fiat branded models arriving: the new B-segment compact, new Doblò Panorama and C-segment Crossover, the latter described by Luca De Meo as a ground breaking new vehicle, fusing the practicality of an MPV with the character and style of an SUV. The first is very interesting as Fiat are looking to build a new cost-effective, low-B-segment model which will recreate the spirit of the 1980s Uno model. The Uno in fact is still a hugely popular entry-level model in South America. In Brazil last month, where it is built at Fiat's Betim plant, it was the fourth best seller in its segment, behind the Fiat Palio, VW Gol and Chevrolet Celta, all of which are important models. Fiat Auto South Africa are also set to reintroduce the Uno, which is now known as the "Mille" in 2007 as they capitalise on strong African demand for cheap and basic cars. Fiat Automòveis will lead development of the new B-segment model.

2009 will also see a new crossover arriving as well as a passenger carrying version of the new Doblò. The Doblò range was facelifted last autumn and it immediately won the prestigious "Van of the Year" title; the new model will also be developed and built by Tofas in Turkey. As Fiat seek to build on the success it has had with niche versions of the Panda, the second version of the 500 to hit the market will be a convertible. Finally a facelifted Sedici will also be launched.

The last year of the plan (2010) will see a the next-generation A-segment Panda launched, along with a second body style for the new low-B-segment model (in the format of the Idea) and also a new station wagon version of the Bravo. At the same time there will be facelifted versions of the Bravo and Linea, and Model Year versions of the 500 and Croma.
