The Fiat Auto
Proving Ground in Balocco (Vercelli) was the venue of the
second edition of formula ATA, held this month, and Iveco
was part of the event as one of the most important sponsors.
Formula ATA is a technical-sporting event organized by
“Associazione Tecnica dell’Automobile“ (the Italian
Automotive Technical Association), which is dedicated to
university students and aims at stimulating and awarding the
enthusiasm, creativity, competence and team spirit of young
engineers. During the races in Balocco two new Daily vans,
prepared for the Ferrari team, for which Iveco is the
official supplier, acted as the "Safety Cars", clear
reminders of the Formula One Grand Prix which was scheduled
during the weekend's events, at Monza.
The event included two competitions. In the first one, named
Formula SAE Italy, many teams of young engineers competed in
static and dynamic tests for conventional single-seated
racing vehicles designed by them. The other competition was
called the Formula TECH and it was dedicated to the
realization and increase in value of innovative solutions
developed in the universities all over the world with the
purpose of reducing the environmental impact of vehicles on
two, three or four wheels.

of the company in this sector, were to encourage the
technical-scientific competition and will create also an
extraordinary meeting opportunity for the academic and
industrial worlds.
The 2006 edition of Formula ATA was also richer in content
due an international conference meeting which was entitled
“Integrated Chassis Control” which took place at the Balocco
Proving Ground at the same time, and where new advanced
“by-wire” systems for vehicle performance and safety were
