A second world
premičre has taken place this week on the Alfa Romeo stand
in Geneva with the very public arrival of the stylish new Alfa
159 Sportwagon. On Tuesday, Alfa Romeo's Italian Chief Executive Officer Antonio
Baravalle unveiled the brand-new Alfa 159 Sportwagon alongside the
new Brera-derived Spider, two truly exciting cars that have
really grabbed the limelight at
the world's most prestigious motor show.
Alfa Romeo themselves describe the new Alfa 159 Sportwagon thus: "Italian
styling, the performance and handling of a thoroughbred
sports car, and the flexible, versatile use of space of a
prestigious station wagon." And it is certainly no
understatement: the new Alfa 159 Sportwagon model range is a
highly effective successor to the Alfa 156 Sportwagon, no
mean feat in itself as this car set a new benchmark in
'station wagon' styling during the late 1990s and won many
admirers.
The new model
is much larger though than the Alfa 156 Sportwagon, with more load space, more innovation
throughout, and drastically improved build quality. It
completes the Alfa 159 range, and as it arrives on the
Italian market this month, Alfa Romeo have achieved the
roll-out in record time. In fact Alfa Romeo believe that the
159 Sportwagon will eventually sell in higher volumes than
the sedan with a 60-40 pct split being envisioned in favour
of the latest arrival.

Three
versions of the Alfa 159 Sportwagon are on display in Geneva
this week. The most exciting version is a 3.2 Q4 finished in ‘Alfa Silver’
paintwork. It is fitted with the powerful new 3.2 V6 JTS
24-valve engine that delivers 260 bhp. Fitted with four
wheel drive the new Sportwagon range arrives on the market
with a powerful and exciting range topper from day one.
The
second example is finished in ‘Ruby Red’ and boasts the
effective 185 bhp 2.2 JTS engine under the bonnet. Finally,
a 159 Sportwagon in an eye-catching ‘Dawn
Light Blue’ paint finish and powered by the 200 bhp 2.4-litre JTDm
engine completes the line-up. All three Alfa 159 Sportwagons
are very well equipped
and truly epitomise Italian styling and performance, and the
handling of a true sports car, with the flexible use and the
versatile interpretation of space you expect from a
prestigious station wagon.
