Scuderia Ferrari
issued a brief press release today to announce that American
Information Technology firm Acer has now come onboard as a
full team sponsor for the next three years, stepping up from
their current 'technical partner' status. The announcement
combats much recent media speculation about Ferrari's
finances which have swirled around ever since Vodafone
announced they will switch to McLaren when their existing
contract with Ferrari comes to a conclusion at the end of
this season.
"Ferrari is delighted to announce that it has broadened the
scope of its technical and commercial collaboration
agreement with Acer, the world's leading information
technology company," read the Ferrari press release.
"Although an Official Partner of the Scuderia Ferrari since
2003, Acer today came aboard as a Sponsor when it signed a
three-year sponsorship deal that will continue until the end
of 2008," it added.
Acer ranks among
the world's top five branded PC vendors, designing and
marketing easy, dependable IT solutions that empower people
to reach their goals and enhance their lives. In 2000, Acer
spun-off its manufacturing operation to focus on globally
marketing its brand-name products: desktop and mobile PCs,
servers and storage, displays, peripherals, and e-business
solutions for business, government, education, and home
users. Established in 1976, Acer Inc. now employs 5,600
people supporting dealers and distributors in more than 100
countries. Revenues in 2004 reached US$7 billion.
Since Acer
announced its group-wide transformation at the end of 2000,
they have dedicated their efforts to become a global
marketing and services company. Acer developed a profitable
and sustainable Channel Business Model that involves working
with first-class PC industry suppliers and channel partners.
As a result, Acer has fortified its branding, technology and
marketing know-how; as well as its effectiveness in managing
global logistics, worldwide business channels and customer
service. As Acer's competitiveness grows, so do the rewards
shared among their partners.
