02.09.2006 RISI COMPETIZIONE FERRARI F430GT RACERS FASTEST IN GT2 PRACTICE AT MOSPORT INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

A pair of Ferrari F430GTs campaigned by the Houston-based Risi Competizione team screamed into first and second place during the last practice of the day yesterday (Friday) at the Mosport International Raceway in Canada for the Grand Prix of Mosport, the 8th round of the 2006 American Le Mans Series. Risi Competizione, car No. 62, driven by Stephane Ortelli (who is co-driving with Johnny Mowlem for this weekend’s race) was fastest in the GT2 class with a 1.17.964 lap time; that pace put him nearly a full second ahead of the No. 61 Ferri Competizione/Ferrari of Silicon Valley Ferrari F430GT driven by Toni Vilander (co-driver, Maurizio Mediani). Third in the session was the Flying Lizards Motorsports Porsche 911 driven by Johannes van Overbeek and Marc Leib, which notched a 1.19.04 time.

“This is what we expect of our cars and drivers when we attend a race meeting,” Team Managing Director Giuseppe Risi said. “We know the competition is difficult; we know we’re racing in the most competitive class in ALMS and everyone who has followed us this year knows that we have overcome a lot of obstacles thus far. But, we always expect the best possible effort from our crew and drivers. It’s a nice way to start the weekend.”

Team Manager Dave Sims echoed Risi’s comments, noting that “Our drivers and crew got to a good setup quickly. The Michelin tires are doing a great job and Stephane took the measure of the track today.

"All of our drivers had good stints, Toni Vilander—who drives the Ferri Competizione/Ferrari of Silicon Valley F430GT—continued to show the pace that makes him one of the quickest drivers in the series," added Sims. "We’re satisfied with today’s efforts, but tomorrow is another day and we will have to turn it up a notch. I haven’t noticed anyone backing off year and this race is going to be no exception,” he concluded.
