6 HOURS OF VALLELUNGA

20.11.2006 MASERATI WIN THE 6 HOURS OF VALLELUNGA FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR

After its 2005 win, the Racing Box Maserati MC12 followed up with victory in the 6 Hours of Vallelunga ‘Gold Cup’. This time the prestigious ‘classic’ was won by the Perazzini/Cioci/Lamy crew.

Bad weather resulted in the start of the race at the Lazio circuit being delayed. With the track surface still damp, the competitors opted to begin with dry tyres. The safety car was on for the first lap as the fog slowly dispersed. The two Norma Sports cars led after 25 minutes with Perazzini/Cioci/Lamy’s Maserati MC12 in second. The safety car was again called for after twenty laps. After an hour of racing, the Maserati was in fourth behind the Norma Sport CN, a Ferrari 430 GT2 and the Courage C65 LMP2. Lamy’s race was interrupted when he had to pull into the pits with a puncture.

The Maserati MC12’s superior reliability told in the end and the Racing Box run car was very soon mounting a comeback. It took the lead of the race as the other vehicles suffered mechanical problems.

After its 2005 win, the Racing Box Maserati MC12 followed up with victory in the 6 Hours of Vallelunga ‘Gold Cup’. This time the prestigious ‘classic’ was won by a crew made up by Perazzini, Cioci and Lamy.

The Racing Box car’s race proceeded without inconvenience and was setting a fast pace. The end of the second hour was marked by Cioci coming into the pits with a damaged rim after a clash with a prototype. None of the other cars seriously bothered the MC12 from that point on, allowing Perazzini/Cioci/Lamy to coast to the 2006 6 Hour of Vallelunga. They covered 215 laps in 6h01’29”524 at an average of 145.774 km/h. Giudici/Nannini/Arlotti/Gini’s Maserati MC12 also did well to come fourteenth overall while the Team Giudici Trofeo finished in nineteenth with Maranelli/‘Blu Max’/Mursia on board. Unfortunately, Mezzini/Conte/Bellin’s AF Corse Light did not finish the race.
