After a
promising start at Calder Park last month, the Australian
Production Touring Car Championship's ranks are set to swell
further, with the addition of two more manufacturers to the
category in time for the second round at Wakefield Park this
coming weekend.
The track action that took place during the three-race
opening round at Calder Park action quite frenetic, and the
'street-legal' championship racing philosophy of the new
Production Touring Car Championship C seems to be an
excellent potential recipe for close racing. BMW, Toyota, Mitsubishi,
Hyundai, Nissan and Peugeot were all represented at Calder
Park.
Round two at
Goulburn's Wakefield Park this weekend will see some extra
new ingredients added to that recipe. As two additional
manufacturers will be involved on track in the form of Alfa
Romeo and Proton. Alfa Romeo will be represented on track by
two different recent high-performance models - the Alfa 156
GTA and the Alfa 147 GTA - both of which have in recent
years earned excellent track pedigrees. The series has
already seen one Alfa Romeo involved on track - the official
'safety car' is an Alfa GT Coupé, supplied by Alfa Romeo
Australia.
Jason Sinai
Motor Sports will campaign a red-liveried, 2004-model Alfa
147 GTA. The Class A Alfa 147 GTA features the classic
3.2-litre V6 engine, and boasts around 184kw of power in
'standard' format to adhere to the PTCC regulations. With
its 6-speed gearbox, the Alfa 147 GTA is sure to suit the
Wakefield Park layout very well. Driver Jason Sinai has a
background in production car racing in South Africa and more
recently has been Club racing in New South Wales, Australia.
In the finest traditions of the fledgling championship, the
Alfa 147 GTA will be driven by Jason to the track.
