Damaged sustained during the hectic three British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) programme at the Snetterton circuit last weekend, will force Eoin Murray to sit out the next round of the series to be held at Knockhill in his Alfa 156. The young Irishman received the full N.technology-built Alfa 156 racer as his prize for winning the 2005 edition of the European Alfa Challenge. He joined the 2006 BTCC series at Croft on 16th July, and has since turned in a string of hugely impressive performances on the track against bigger-budget teams.

Changing weather patterns created difficult BTCC qualifying conditions for Eoin Murray and his Quest Team at Snetterton last weekend. Setting the car up for wet conditions, which did not eventually materialize, meant that the Arguscarhire.com car qualified in 13th place for Sundays race.

In the first race of the weekend, on a wet Snetterton track, extra caution was called for but Eoin managed to stay in contention until a spin by Matt Neal meant that Neal was stalled right across the track and as Murray came through Neal re-joined in his path leaving Murray nowhere to go. Murray’s car was severely damaged and the resulting collision forcing him to retire.

A fantastic effort by Team Quest had the Car ready for race two where Eoin started from nineteenth on the grid and eventually managed to finish in tenth place. In the third race of the weekend Murray, starting from tenth on the grid, had a battle with fellow Irishman Gavin Smith until a collision at the Esses damaged Eoin's front wheel which and put paid to further advancement and he struggled with a vibration to eventually bring the Alfa Romeo home in tenth.

"Overall that was a very difficult weekend but for the efforts of the team I could have been out completely after the first race. Considering the damage from race one it was a miracle to be able to complete the second two races however the additional expense of the repairs on our limited budget means that we will not be able to compete at Knockhill in three weeks time. Now we will really concentrates on strong performances in the last two events at Brands and Silverstone." The next round for Eoin will be at Brands Hatch on the 24th of September.
