13.12.2006 FIAT DRIVER TREVOR TUCK COLLECTS HIS AWARD FOR WINNING THE SOUTH AFRICAN JUNIOR PRODUCTION CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

Motorsport South Africa honoured the 2006 South African Champions, as well as other competitors and officials for outstanding contributions to motorsport at a glittering gala banquet held at Emperor’s Palace on Saturday, 9th December 2006.

Trevor Tuck received his trophy for the 2006 South African Junior Production Car Championship on the evening. The Fiat Palio driver clinched this year’s title by a margin of 56 points from nearest rival Wayne Masters in a VW Polo TDI. The Championship was secured in Cape Town at the Killarney event but the Fiat pilot extended the points lead further at the final meeting at Kyalami. This year was the first full season for Tuck after a late start to the season in 2005 saw him miss the first two rounds of the Championship. The 2005 Car Magazine "Rookie of the Year" completed the dream double by taking the Rookie honours in his debut 2005 season followed by the South African Junior Production Car Championship in 2006. “It is a great honour to receive such an award. From my first race in 2005 to the final race of 2006 has been a special time in my life for me with Fiat," said Tuck. "I would never have thought something like this possible coming from such a humble background.

"I can only say thank you to Fiat Auto South Africa and more specifically Dr Giorgio Gorelli firstly for giving me the opportunity to be an ambassador for Fiat and of course for giving me the best equipment. Secondly to my team mate Theunis Eloff for teaching me so much about the sport and really being my pillar of strength along with Lindsay Steyn our Team Manager," concluded Tuck.

“I am somewhat sad that the season has ended and my time with my Fiat Palio has come to an end but the show must go on and new challenges await for which I am most excited. I also want to extend a special last thanks to all the sponsors for their support this year. As a privateer team the season has been a tough one but we have come out with the best possible result” Motorsport Infinity would like to dedicate this South African Championship to its loyal and valued sponsors.
