The website
competition to choose a name for the forthcoming small
Alfa Romeo sports hatchback, Project 955, has wrapped up
with 'Furiosa' being chosen by voters on the dedicated
website, alfanaming.it. Set to arrive on the
market during the third quarter of 2008, according to an
investor presentation that Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne
outlined in London this week, the project has thus far
been referred to as the 'Junior'.
At the
beginning of the month Alfa Romeo unveiled a shortlist
of 12 names that it claimed had been chosen by the
public up to that point and a final two week period,
which ended yesterday, was set aside to allow registered
users of the website to chose their favourite name. In
the end Furiosa came out on top, ahead of Ventura and
Sparvo. The final list (in order of popularity) is as
follows:
1. Furiosa
2. Ventura
3. Sparvo
4. Mod
5. Eno
6. Nevo
7. Fira
8. Agea
9. Solea
10. Velvetta
11. Milo
12. Everso
The naming
contest was organised by Alfa Romeo in conjunction with
leading Italian motoring magazine, Quattroruote. Also
involved in the project were several other leading
European car magazines: Auto Motor Sport,
TopGear, L’Automobile, CG (Car Graphic)
and Autopista.
