The Ferrari
60 Relay tour has now crossed the African continent with two
stages which were enormously successful held in South
Africa. On 9th March the a cavalcade of cars passed through
Johannesburg and later on Cape Town, the event involving
more than four hundred Prancing Horse customers and over
forty cars.
In Johannesburg the Rosso Sport Auto dealership was the
starting point of the Tour's trip through South Africa.
Later in the day at the consulate in Houghton the
participants took part in a ceremony with the Italian
ambassador Alessandro Cevese, before they left in the
direction of Soccer City. In Cape Town the Tour stopped at
the Viglietti Motors dealership, passing the castle, which
had been built in the years 1666 to 1679 to protect the Cape
of Good Hope. In front of the castle the baton was passed on
to the first driver of the Tour, which left in the direction
of the fascinating place of Groot Constantia.
The Ferrari 60 Relay tour then proceed to the USA
last weekend and its first stage in Miami where sixty
Ferrari owners gathered at The Collection, Ferrari's
authorised dealership in Miami, and drove from the
dealership to the Homestead - Miami Speedway where the
season opener for the 14th annual Ferrari Challenge was
taking place. At the speedway the owners celebrated 60 years
of Ferrari passion with a ceremonial parade lap around the
track cheered on by thousands of spectators. The relay is
now proceeding through South America as it heads towards an
eventual conclusion in Maranello in late June.

The relay involves over 10,000 Ferrari owners and their cars
of all ages. They act as symbolic "bearers" of a specially
commissioned relay baton adorned with 60 badges of
symbolizing the most extraordinary events in the marque's
60-year history. The relay started in Abu Dhabi and made its
way across the Middle East to China, Japan and Australia
before arriving in South Africa and then crossing the
Atlantic to the United States. Now the relay is heading to
Brazil and Mexico before returning to North America where it
will make stops in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto,
Montreal before its last U.S. stop going from New York to
Washington D.C. Then the relay will move to all main
European countries
before arriving at the Ferrari factory in Maranello, Italy
on June 23rd.
The relay baton was designed and created to symbolise
Ferrari's history and is topped by a dazzling platinum and
diamond Prancing Horse made by Damiani. It also features 60
enamel symbols designed by the Intesta e D'Adda, Lorenzini,
Vigorelli and BBDO advertising agencies, and the creative
talents Allessando Migliorini of Area Creativa, Marco
Morosini, Enzo Naso of the eponymous studio and Wolfgang
Seidl of Seidldesign.
