To help publicise the arrival of the
new Fiat Grande Punto in Chile an exhibition was
recently held in Arauco Park, Santiago which featured
the bold interpretation of the new car by famous
national artist Mario Toral and several prominent art
students. Arauco Park is one of the Chilean capital
city's most prestigious shopping malls, and with the
four cars being placed on individual plinths in a large
outdoor piazza area surrounded by restaurants it the
ideal location for the exhibition, which was judged to
be a huge
success.
The artistic display in the boulevard of the commercial centre
swiftly grabbed the public's attention, bringing them closer to
the cars, attracted by the boldly painted attractive oils on
the four Fiat Grande Punto models which were on show.
The exhibition was spearheaded by Toral who is one of
Chile's most famous and prolific artists and who has
tackled a large number of subjects and chosen different
mediums to get his message across. One of his best
known, and most seen, works is a giant mural painted at
the Universidad de Chile stop of the Santiago Metro.
During the ten days of the display, this innovative cultural manifestation
carried out by the Italian brand - where the car became
the canvas - was able to get much
attention from the visitors, thanks to the sophisticated
design of Fiat Grande Punto model (a project from the
pen of the famous
Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was elected Designer of
the Century) together with the works made by Chile's
outstanding artist Mario Toral, and respected art students
Sandra Guzmán, Catalina Téllez and Federico Infante.
Onlookers gather to see the cars being transformed by
the four artists, who each painted to their own unique
styles to being the works to life. Toral's subject was
entitled
"Apasionado", Guzmán's
called hers "Obsesión" and it was prominently decorated
with flowers, Téllez' creation was named
"Nave Láctea",
while Infante's made much use of shadows in his
interpretation and he titled his piece "Reflejos".

Attracted by this superb cultural conjunction, the
public were drawn
closer to the cars, able to appreciate in detail the art
involved in each one of the creations. This innovative
initiative from Fiat, targeted bringing these works of art nearer to the
public, and it helped to break people's routine as they walk along the
commercial centre. It was a total success, the reception and perception of the event on the part of
those who admired the works of the national artists was
impressive.
