With its sales up 25 percent year-on-year Fiat will be at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show later this week showing off its range of A- and B-segment models which are proving fashionably popular with the Japanese car buying public.

In Japan's huge gridlocked cities and sprawling urban areas, small 'city car' vehicles prove popular, and this demand provides perfect synergies for Fiat which has always been at its strongest in creating practical and innovative the A- and B-segment cars. Moreover the Japanese consumer is able to count on individuality, flair and Italian style and design, from Fiat's two contenders on this market: the Panda and Grande Punto which have combined sales of 1,700 units.

The fashionable Alessi-styled version of the Panda received its production world debut during the last edition of the Tokyo Motor Show, in 2005. And, since the Grande Punto was launched in Japan in the second half of 2006, it has found a new audience amongst metropolitan families and helped to allow Fiat to reach a useful target: more than 60 percent of sales are made to young people. All in all Fiat's sales in Japan for the first nine months of this year are up 25 percent on that achieved during the same period last year.

Building on the Japanese market's demand for small, iconic cars, the new 500 is expected to be a huge hit when it goes on sale next year, and this exciting 'city' car will be on Fiat's Tokyo Motor Show stand this coming week alongside the Panda and Grande Punto. The Abarth relaunch will also reach Japan during the show, with this nation expected to rapidly become one of the Scorpion brand's most important worldwide markets.

The 40th Tokyo Motor Show 2007 will be held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City for 17 days from October 26th (Friday) through November 11th (Sunday) this year. The show will be opened to the public from October 27th (Saturday). Exhibitors include 241 companies from 11 countries. Besides using all of the Makuhari Messe facilities, outdoor exhibits will be set up for exhibition space amounting to a total of 44,587 m2. This will be 11 percent larger than the 39th show. A total of 520 vehicles will be on exhibit, including 71 world premieres (37 passenger cars, 5 commercial vehicles, 26 motorcycles and 3 vehicle bodies) and 97 Japan premieres (71 passenger cars, 2 commercial vehicles and 24 motorcycles). In terms of the world premiere number, it will be among the world-leading international motor shows.

The new integrated show making its debut this year will encompass passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, vehicle bodies, parts, and machinery and tools, for the first time in ten years, and will be held every other year hereafter. The Tokyo Motor Show aims to provide the maximum amount of information, all in one compact space where cutting-edge products and technologies gather, including many world premieres across a wide range of automotive categories.
