The
attractive Fiat Grande Punto hatchback from the famous
Italian brand acquires a more sporting character with
the arrival in Mexico of the new 1.4-litre T-Jet turbo
engine which combines low levels of fuel consumption
with an excellent performance. The Grande Punto T-Jet
which now joins the Mexican Fiat passenger car range is
being shipped from Europe, rather than being the 5-door
version which is now being built in Brazil. Like Mexico,
Chile also gets the European versions, with Brazil and
Argentina currently the recipients of the Latin American
manufactured version.
Fiat Mexico has
started this week across all its dealerships the
commercialisation of the new Grande Punto Turbo, which is
equipped with the 1.4 T-Jet engine, delivering maximum
torque of 206 Nm at only 2,000 rpm and a maximum power
output of 120 bhp; this level of torque is higher than many
naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engines on the Mexican market.
Nevertheless, the engine turbo T-Jet is brilliant not only
for its quick response to the pressing of the accelerator
pedal, but also due to its low level of consumption and
emissions. The average consumption (combined cycle) is 15.2
km per litre and the level of CO2 emitted is only 155 grams
per kilometre. This is just 8 percent more respectively than
the figures of 1.4 Starjet engine with an output of just 95
bhp.
Available on the
Mexican market in two versions, Dynamic with 5 doors and
Sport with 3 doors, the Grande Punto with its turbocharged
engine offers a unique combination equipment which has never
been found before in the Mexican segment for hatchbacks
under 200,000 pesos (£8,958), and, besides its modern,
responsive engine, the Fiat Grande Punto is equipped with
ABS, ASR and ESP + HSD to offer the highest levels of safety
and security.
With a price
list of 193,900 pesos (£8,659 pounds), the Grande Punto 1.4
T-Jet Dynamic has as standard equipment ABS, ASR, ESP, 16
inche alloy wheels, front and rear fog lights, audio system
with CD and MP3 player, climate control, electric windows,
electric mirrors, central locking, trip computer, steering
wheel and air bags for driver and passenger. Meanwhile the
Grande Punto 1.4 T-Jet Sport has a price list of 199,900
thousand pesos, and offers the same standard equipment as
the Dynamic version plus 17 inche alloy wheels, sport seats,
lateral spoiler, chrome-plated exhaust tail pipe, a
dashboard with white backgrounds to the instruments, and a
subwoofer with amplifier for the audio system which is
located in the trunk.
