15.08.2007 STRONG sales DURING July strengthen FIAT'S leadership OF the Brazilian market

Fiat Automóveis was once again the brand leader in the Brazilian new automobile market during July, with 54,533 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles being sold in that period, a performance which corresponds to them grabbing an impressive 26.4 percent share of the market.

With this latest excellent result, Fiat’s leadership of the burgeoning Brazilian new car market, where it has been the top-seller ever since January, grows still stronger. From the beginning of this year up to the end of July Fiat has sold 320,188 vehicles in Brazil, which equates to a 25.9 percent share of the market, and a year-on-year growth of 32.3 percent in relation to the first seven months of last year; meanwhile the Brazilian market has registered a rise of 26.6 percent, which is well below the Italian brand's performance, during the same period.

The difference in sales so far this year compared to the second positioned brand in the ranking of new sales is superior to the tune of 32,600 units. Besides this, Fiat has also achieved a new historical record of sales, with a production volume never reached in Brazil before during a seven consecutive month period since the begging of its operation in the most populous Latin American country back in 1976, 397,063 units. The accumulated exports since January adds some 62,629 more vehicles, and turns in a growth of 7.8 percent compared to the same period of 2006.

The Palio family of cost-effective, robust models kept up its great success of sales, and in fact just the Palio hatchback's total number of sales since the beginning of the year arrives at an amount of 119,699 units, a sharp growth of 51 percent, compared to the same period of 2006.

FIAT STRADA ADVENTURE

The Fiat Strada pick-up keeps up its successful pattern of sales amongst the light commercial vehicle sector in Brazil, and has achieved a level of 33,966 units sold during the first seven months.

FIAT GRANDE PUNTO 1.8 HLX (BRAZIL)

Fiat Automóveis will be further boosted from this month by the arrival of the Grande Punto, which was launched in Latin America at a ceremony in Argentina late last week.

The Palio hatchback's range was freshened up during the spring with the introduction of a comprehensively facelifted model, dubbed the 'Palio 2008', which includes a sporty version (the Palio 1.8 R) in the wide range. The second member of the 'World Car' Palio family, the Fiat Siena (sedan) performed even better than its hatchback sister, with a whopping 89 percent rise in sales compared to the same period of last year; it now stands at 46,381 units sold. Production of the Siena will be transferred to Fiat's mothballed factory at Córdoba in Argentina by the end of the year. The Strada pick-up keeps up its successful pattern of sales amongst the light commercial vehicle sector, and has achieved a level of 33,966 units sold during the first seven months of the year, representing a 50 percent growth in relation to the same period of 2006, a result which serves to enlarge its leadership among vehicles in this category.

Fiat Automóveis will be further boosted from this month by the arrival of the Grande Punto, which was launched in Latin America at a ceremony in Argentina late last week. The Grande Punto, which is quite different under the skin to the European model, will push Fiat into a premium market segment where it has been underrepresented. Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne also reconfirmed an on-going multi-billion dollar investment programme.
