20.07.2007 MASERATI GRANTURISMO IS CRAFTSMANSHIP

After detailing the excitement factor of the new 4.2-litre V8-engine GranTurismo, as well as its high build quality, impressive safety features and fresh innovations, such as the auto gearbox, adaptive lights and Skyhook suspension, Maserati now turns to the splendid craftsmanship that has gone into its new coupé.

Fit and Tanned

Remember when you had to adapt your style preferences to the limited range of interior choices in the car you wanted to buy? And every other similar car had the same interior as yours? Maserati has made a habit of doing things with an eye for the finer details, and that includes providing more options for style, luxury and grace than its rivals. That is why Maserati chose to use the finest Italian Poltrona Frau® leather – the same leather used by the most famous artisans in the Italian luxury furniture business – to trim the interior of the GranTurismo.

The GranTurismo redefines luxury in the Grand Tourer segment, and Poltrona Frau leather fits the GranTurismo perfectly. By using traditional methods to meticulously select the hides and to produce soft, warm leather, Poltrona Frau represents the craftsmanship of times gone by. It also combines this time-honoured expertise with modern techniques, including embossing the Maserati Trident on the four leather headrests of the GranTurismo. Incredibly snug in winter, practical and cool in the summer, the leather is available in ten colours. And you can choose which of the thirteen stitching colours best suits your tastes as well.

Case Study in Luxury

There was a time when luxury gave you the overwhelming satisfaction of knowing something had been handcrafted for you, to match your exact needs. Salvatore Ferragamo doesn’t need to remember what this level of exclusivity used to be. A world leader in luxury accessories, Ferragamo has never abandoned these roots. Ferragamo and Maserati have a lot in common in that regard, because every Maserati is able to be crafted to suit the tastes of each individual client. And a key halo to effortlessly reinforce Maserati’s craftsmanship is a Ferragamo luggage set tailored for the Maserati GranTurismo. Ferragamo’s vision of luxury has not only reflected Maserati’s own automotive art, but it has also produced an extremely practical set of luggage. It is specifically designed as an integrated set to take full advantage of every breath of room in the GranTurismo’s boot, as well as having enough space and practicality to make effortless long journeys. The set has five elements, including a maxi bag, a garment bag, a weekend bag, a beauty case and a shoe holder. Created to reflect the design of the GranTurismo’s unique grille, the luggage leaves a strong personal signature in its wake, whether you’re at a hotel lobby or an airport.

The hand-crafted set is available in either hand-grained calfskin or a natural, scratchproof calfskin. Of course, to complement the colour of your personalized Maserati, there are four colours of Ferragamo luggage available, including Testa di Moro and Blu Maserati (hand-grained calfskin) or Nero and Melanzana (natural calfskin). Luxury means you have something special that is only available to the select few. The Ferragamo for Maserati luggage set fits the GranTurismo perfectly, and both are definitely reserved for the select few.

This tailor specialises in navigating through the four-million or so possible customising combinations to find the Maserati that exactly suits each client. One of the key tools he uses is the Atelier Maserati and, because the tailor can’t be in every dealership, Maserati is sending the Atelier to its dealers. The Atelier Maserati will provide physical examples of the interior options so customers can be more confident of their customisation choices. The prototype of the Atelier Maserati proved to be one of the talking points of this year’s Geneva Motor Show, and it will be rolled out to all Maserati dealers in the near future.

It includes a specialist tailoring table, to lay out the choices. There will be samples of the different leather colours, the carpets, the stitching colours and the trims. It also includes samples of exterior and interior combinations – together, naturally. The idea is to give customers confidence in their choices by physically seeing and feeling the different materials together, to back up their choices from the online car configurator.

From Art to Finish

Maserati is known for combining high technology honed by artisans of automotive craftsmanship. It is only fitting, then, that the car company that leads the world in craftsmanship should also lead in helping its customers personalize one of the world’s most customizable production cars. The original online Maserati car configurators were years ahead of their time. They gave potential customers (and even Maserati fans) the chance to fit their Maserati with its full range of paint and interior options, and was widely copied by Maserati’s rivals.

The new GranTurismo car configurator takes that concept to a whole new level. You will be able to go on-line to build up your own Maserati with the full standard range of paint and interior trim colours, with more than four million potential combinations! It is extremely intuitive to operate as well, and the easy use of the point-and-click arrow system belies its technical sophistication and complexity, and the high quality of the images it uses. With such an enormous number of potential configurations, the car configurator gives you the chance to build a unique Maserati – and to make sure you really like the combinations of the leather colour and material, the roof lining, the leather stitching, the carpet and even the safety belts. Mechanically, you can choose from two wheel sizes, three wheel colours or six brake calliper colours.

If you’re not sure of your choice, you can save it and have a side-by-side view of another option, and Maserati has even provided an X-Ray view, which shows the technical components of the car beneath the bodywork. It trumps its competitors by having eight different views of your completed exterior and four views of the interior, just so you can check that the combinations work for you from every angle. You can even check to see how the dash trim you’ve chosen works with the dashboard illuminated at night.

It also gives you the opportunity to email pictures of your interior and exterior choices to your spouse, family and friends for their feedback – or admiration. You have the chance to see your final GranTurismo choice against a realistic outdoor background, right down to the colour of the seats. And to top it all, you can leaf through a virtual brochure of your very own GranTurismo, the one you’ve just personalised.
