Iveco is adding
to its brand new Stralis heavy truck range a
environmentally-friendly Compressed
Natural Gas (CNG) version. It also completes the range of Iveco CNG
vehicles on offer, each of which meets transport needs on a
full-range basis: the Daily range (from 3.5 to 6.5 ton), the Eurocargo range
(from 12 to 16 ton), and now the Stralis range (from 18 to 26 ton), with
available power output ranging from 106 to 272 CV.
The CNG Stralis are equipped with the Cursor 8 CNG engine,
with a 7.8 litre displacement. Iveco CNG engines’
environmental performance is well beyond the Euro 6 standard
and also fall well within the severe limits foreseen for the
prospective European EEV (Environmentally-friendly Enhanced
Vehicle) scheme. This engine powers over 3,500 CNG urban
buses around the world and over 1,000 garbage collection
trucks on duty in France, Italy, Spain and shortly in
Portugal. The Madrid waste management agency FCC will soon
adopt the Stralis CNG to increase its fleet, which is
expected to total 675 CNG trucks.
The Stralis CNG
range covers applications from 18 to 26 ton with
configurations of two and three axles, 4x2 and 6x2x4, the
latter having a trailing steering axle with pneumatic
suspension. It is ideal for urban missions and is equipped
with the new automatic Allison 3200 gearbox with a hydraulic
torque converter and 6 speeds. The new Stralis offers 3
cabins (Active Day, Active Time, Active Space Cube) and 3
heights (short roof, medium roof, and high roof), while versions can be matched with several types of
suspension – including the full bump air suspensions to
adapt the vehicle to the height required by distribution
missions or intermodal transport.

adding to its brand new Stralis heavy truck range a
Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) version, the new lugger now

The Cursor 8 CNG is a gas engine, Otto cycle, 6
cylinders, 24 valves, overhead camshaft, ultra low emissions
with a stoichiometric combustion system and multi-point
electronic injection with 12 gas injectors in two-by-two
format at the entrance to the inlet duct of each cylinder.
As per the Iveco standards, a lambda probe is part of the
close loop combustion control system to ensure the
stoichiometric combustion is not affected by the natural
gases composition. The exhaust has a three-way platinum and
palladium catalyst, to reduce the concentration of CO, HC
and NOx.
Iveco designs, manufactures, and markets a broad range of
light, medium and heavy commercial vehicles, off-road
trucks, city and intercity buses and coaches as well as
special vehicles for applications such as fire fighting,
off-road missions, defence and civil protection. Iveco
employs over 24,500 people and runs 27 production units in
16 Countries in the world using excellent technologies
developed in 5 research centres. Besides Europe, the company
operates in China, Russia, Turkey, Australia, Argentina,
Brazil, and South Africa. More than 4,600 service outlets in
over 100 Countries guarantee technical support wherever in
the world an Iveco vehicle is at work.
