The Grande
Punto Abarth fitted with the new Kit “esseesse”, will be
the of the reborn brand's stand in Bologna, the car
placed on an inlaid pedestal reproducing a great
polished stainless steel scorpion emphasizing power,
technology and full pedigree. Ahead of this appearance
Abarth has announced technical specifications of the
package.
The 'esseesse'
package was unveiled to the world at the Frankfurt IAA in
September, now it will be seen in Abarth's home market for
the first time ahead of its arrival in the concessionaires
early next year. With the official presentation of Kit
“esseesse” on the Grande Punto Abarth – to be marketed with
the formula of the historic ‘conversion box’ – the marque
forcefully recalls the concept with which it achieved
success back in ‘50s and ‘60s: creating small exclusive
sports cars.
At the start of
2008 the Grande Punto Abarth range will incorporate Kit
“esseesse” (Super Sport). This is a performance kit reserved
to the Grande Punto Abarth, to be installed only by the
official Abarth “Assetto Corse” preparation centres.
Conversion is available when ordering or after-sale: in the
latter case, the maximum limit for installation is one year
or 20,000 km. After conversion, the outfitter will apply for
vehicle type approval: a small service, but above all an
extra guarantee for the owner.
With Kit “esseesse”,
the Grande Punto Abarth Almost doubles in power output
compared to the Fiat model from which it derives (a feature
in line with history: the Fiat 500 of 1958 was rated at 13
HP, whereas the same car in Abarth version boasted 26 HP).
In fact, equipped with a 1.4 16v upgraded to 180 HP (at
5,750 rpm) for 270 Nm max. torque, the Grande Punto Abarth
“esseesse” reaches 215 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in only 7.7
seconds.
To take full
advantage of improved engine characteristics, also vehicle
trim was modified: stiffer and lower-slung springs were
fitted together with Pirelli P zero 215/40 r18 tyres coupled
to 7.5 J X 18 alloy rims of special design (reminiscent of
the style of Abarth competition cars). This package provided
a sportier trim with 20 mm lower centre of roll. The brake
system was revised to incorporate ventilated front and rear
brake discs coupled to high-performance front brake pads.
Exclusive distinguishing touches including self-adhesive
“esseesse” strips and roof-mounted chequered flag ensure
sober personalization which is nonetheless recognizable by
the expert eye.
Thus, Kit
“esseesse” is an integrated and safe product, as the engine
can only be uprated together with brakes and trim upgrading.
And all this can only be done by the Abarth “Assetto Corse”
conversion centres. Finally, to highlight the kit “essesse”
has been developed by the technicians and engineers of Fiat
and Abarth in collaboration with Brembo and Sabelt.
