22.10.2007 STEWARDS ENQUIRY THROWS DOUBT ONTO KIMI RAIKKONEN'S TITLE

Kimi Raikkonen won the Brazilian Grand Prix on Sunday from team mate Felipe Massa, with McLaren’s Fernando Alonso third.

A dampener was thrown over Ferrari's title celebrations in Brazil as news emerged on Sunday evening that the BMW Sauber and Williams teams were being investigated by Brazilian Grand Prix stewards over possible technical irregularities on their cars at the end of Sunday’s Interlagos race.

The enquiries relate to fuel temperature, which under Formula One racing’s technical regulations are not allowed to fall more than 10 degrees Celsius below ambient air temperature at any time. According to FIA data, Williams and BMW Sauber exceeded this range.

Nico Rosberg finished fourth for Williams, with Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld fifth and sixth respectively for BMW Sauber. If these three drivers were to be disqualified, it would move McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton up from seventh to fourth, making him 1 World Champion, rather than Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen who was the outside for the title going into Sunday's race but emerged victorious. However as it is a teams issue, Williams and BMW Sauber could possibly see their constructors' points docked without touching the drivers' points.

Raikkonen won the race at Interlagos on Sunday from his Scuderia Ferrari team mate Felipe Massa, with McLaren’s Fernando Alonso third. Hamilton, the championship leader going into the race had a dramatic afternoon, fighting back into the points after dropping right to the back of the field early on.
