Ferrari ended
four days of testing at Vallelunga yesterday with mixed
results as the test - which saw Felipe Massa concentrating
on the new F2007 chassis and Kimi Raikkonen dialling himself
in with the team at the wheel of last year's 248 F1 - was
affected by bad weather throughout.
Massa and
Raikkonen kicked off the test session in very poor
conditions on Tuesday morning, at the Vallelunga circuit
north of Rome, a location which was chosen after poor
weather hit the team's planned location at Mugello.
Wednesday saw the team back on the track, but the day was
also affected by bad weather, with violent rain showers and
the occasional hail storm. Therefore it did not prove
possible to complete the planned work programme (development
of the F2007 for Massa and learning about the 248 F1 for
Raikkonen.) As a result, the team decided to extend the
session until Friday. Wednesday in figures was as
follows: 31 laps for Massa (best time 1.18.767,) 20 for
Raikkonen (1.22.299.)
Thursday was the third day of testing last week and once
more, bad weather was the key theme of the day: after the
morning when it was possible to do a few laps on dry weather
tyres, the rain began to fall once again at the circuit
after midday. Therefore, yet again the two drivers
were unable to get through their planned programme. In the
end the bRazilian turned in 86 laps, with a best
time 1.13.029, while the Finn managed 43 for Kimi, his
quickest on 1.13.587.

Ferrari wrapped up their stay at Vallelunga with a fourth and final day of
track testing, and although the rain finally moved on from
the Roman circuit during the day, it had in fact stayed for
a long time in the morning, when Massa had only done a few laps, interrupted by an off-track
excursion on the still damp track. After completing an
installation lap in the morning, Raikkonen was back behind
the wheel of the 248 F1 at lunchtime to continue with his
familiarisation process with the car. In the afternoon, once
the F2007 had been repaired, Massa resumed development work on the new car,
but a technical problem caused a further and final
interruption to the session for the Brazilian driver. In the
end it was just 9 laps for Felipe (best
time 1.22.279,) and 52 for Raikkonen (1.19.758.)
The Scuderia will resume testing on 30th January, at
Valencia's "Ricardo Tormo" circuit, where on the
track will be Kimi Raikkonen, joined by the official test
driver Luca Badoer.
