27.10.2007 The importance of technology transfer from racing to road cars

FERRARI WORLD FINALS 2007

Amato Ferrari, Antonello Coletta, Jean Todt, Amedeo Felisa and Giuseppe Risi during the 'Ferrari World Finals' press conference held at Mugello this afternoon.

At the Mugello circuit's press room the usual press conference was held in the afternoon concluding the season of the Corse Clienti and its marque racing series.

Ferrari CEO Jean Todt, General Director Amedeo Felisa, head of Corse Clienti Antonello Coletta and Amato Ferrari and Giuseppe Risi responsible for the European FIA GT championship and the ALMS racing series respectively, were present at the meeting with the press. Jean Todt underlined his satisfaction with the results of the Formula One championships, which has to be added to the positive commercial results of Ferrari. Of fundamental importance is the interaction with the world of racing, which has one of its most important points of reference in terms of technological evolution in the races, reserved for the sporty clients of the Prancing Horse. "Also the agreement reached by Ferrari with the A1 GP, concerning allocation of engines and consulting, starting in the season 2008/09, shows our success," said Ferrari CEO Jean Todt, while pointing out also other initiatives by Ferrari, such as the extension of the FXX program and the certification programs of the Ferrari Classiche department.

Then it was Amedeo Felisa who pointed out the strong "common theme", often underestimated, which connects the different experiences Ferrari offers and, without ever disappointing the sporty customers of the Prancing Horse, unites development of technical solutions, tested at the races, with transferring them, as soon as possible, in production vehicles. "In particular," said Felisa, "some elements, developed thanks to our experience at the ALMS and the FIA GT championships, have been applied with the 430 Scuderia, which had its premiere at the Frankfurt car shown on 11th September and which is the most powerful road car ever built in Maranello."

Yet other technical details have been anticipated by the 430 Scuderia and will be used in the different Trofei races over the next year. Meanwhile the technical development programs, foreseen for the most important international racing series, such as the ALMS and the FIA GT championship, will have further important modifications over the next four months in terms of modifications of the engine, the electronics, the diffusors, together with an enhanced traction control. All this, to demonstrate how the technological contents are in continuous evolution and how strong the synergy is between the world of racing and the production of series vehicles. As far as the agreement with the A1 GP racing series is concerned, Antonello Coletta spoke about the possibility of races in Italy and even at the Mugello circuit. For Coletta this is a very likely option. As far as the technical details are concerned Felisa explained that the engine supply foresees an engine with 600 BHP with direct fuel injection, deriving from the V8 engine of the 430 Scuderia.

At the end of the meeting with the press some important figures of the Ferrari Challenge, now in its 15th season, were named: there are 50 drivers licensed for the Ferrari Challenge Italia, with an average of 32-33 participants in every race; there are more than 60 participants in every Ferrari Challenge Europe race, with 70 drivers licensed for this racing series, while there are 30 participants in every race of the North American series. An excellent result, if one considers the logistical problems of North America. Meanwhile also the enormous success in terms of the image of the brand, thanks to the success in Formula One, has been underlined. This is an element, which guarantees the client reliability in buying a road car with the Prancing Horse and confirms that Formula One "is an investment and not an expense," as Felisa underlined.

Eventually compliments have been paid to the Risi Team, which was able to win the constructors' title in the ALMS racing series together with the drivers' title, also thanks to a fabulous win at the race in Sebring and a second place at Le Mans. Congratulations also for the AF Corse Motorola team, winning the marques' and drivers' title (with nine wins in ten races) in the GT2 class of the FIA GT world championships.
