Tafel Racing
has announced that Wolf Henzler and Dominik Farnbacher
will return for 2008 to drive the team’s new No. 71
Tafel Racing Ferrari F430 GT in the American Le Mans
Series (ALMS).
The team paired
the two speedy Germans for the final two ALMS races of 2007
at Petit Le Mans and Laguna Seca resulting in two second
place finishes. Team owner Jim Tafel was happy with the
performances and will keep the duo together for 2008.
“When we put
Dominik together with Wolf the chemistry was immediate,”
Tafel said. “They both share similar driving styles and as a
pair will be contenders for a championship in 2008. It was
one of our goals to retain the combination for 2008.”
Wolf Henzler
enters the second year of a multi-year contract with the
team. “I am really excited about the opportunity to be
driving the Ferrari,” Henzler said. “This is a chance to go
head-to-head with the teams that we chased so hard during
the past year. It is a testament to Jim’s commitment to put
the best equipment on the track to compete for race wins and
a championship. ”
Dominik
Farnbacher heads into his sophomore season with the team.
“When Tony (Dowe, team technical director) told me of the
teams plans at Petit Le Mans I was happy to sign-on with the
team for a second year. I can’t wait to start testing. We
have always known how good the Ferrari was over a race
distance, now we get to experience it for ourselves. Coming
back as a team mate with Wolf at the very start of the
season will be great.”
“The combination
of Wolf, Dominik and Ferrari is going to be fantastic to
watch; this is something sports car fans should not miss,”
said Tony Dowe, team vice president. “When we paired them
late last season we knew it was something special. They go
about the race weekend in a similar fashion, taking in all
the available data and their ability to communicate their
needs to the crew is something we will bank with the new
F430 GTs this year.”
The drivers for
the No. 73 car will also be announced in the near future
along with additional drivers for the Sebring 12 Hours.
Sponsors for both the No. 71 and No. 73 cars will be the
subject of future announcements. The team will have at least
one of their two cars on the track for the Sebring open test
January 28-30.
