The 2007 FIA GT
Championship season is gathering pace. Just two weeks after
the seventh round in Adria, where AF Corse Motorola
re-asserted itself as the leading team in GT2 with a fourth
win for Müller and Vilander, the GT2 teams and drivers
gathered at the weekend at the magnificent Brno Circuit in
the Czech Republic.
For the FIA GT Championship, this was a welcome eighth visit
to the circuit, a regular fixture on the calendar since
2000. The picturesque circuit, winding uphill and down
through the forests, has provided some excellent races in
the past and 2007 was sure to live up to with the GT2
classification being close. The event, running from Friday to
Sunday, included rounds FIA GT3 championship as well as
the many of the Czech national
Championships, including the CP- Skoda Octavia Cup and
the Divize 3 and 4 series.
During the
opening practice session most of the cars were using tyres from Adria, as they
are allowed, and worked for the race set-up. Paolo
Ruberti, in the nr 52 Racing Team Edil Cris Ferrari F430
GT2, set the best time in the first session, with a lap
of 2:01.912. He was followed by the nr 63 Scuderia
Ecosse Ferrari of Niarchos and Kirkaldy, with the nr 74 Ebimotors Porsche 997 GT3 RSR in third, and the leading
Porsche.
However, for much of the session, the fastest
cars had been the AF Corse Motorola cars, with the nr 50
and 51 separated by newcomer Advanced Engineering until
a rush of late-session improvements. The Championship
leaders Müller and Vilander were fourth, with the second Edil Cris car fifth.

in the qualifying session with a time of
2:00.614. This was his second pole of the season, after
Zhuhai. Second place went to Tim Mullen, driving the nr
62 Scuderia Ecosse Ferrari 430 GT2. Tim claimed pole
last year in Brno - however, conditions are much faster
this year, as his 2006 pole was of 2:02.104. Third
place on the GT2 grid went to the second AF
Corse Motorola car, Gianmaria Bruni having qualified the
